Known Issue: T5 Filing May Result in an Error

We are aware of an issue where filing T5 slips containing calculated dividend tax credits, such as box 12 or box 26, may result in an error in TaxCycle. This also appears on the last confirmation page when there is a mismatch between the amounts entered on the T5 slips and the amounts in the XML file. This is due to a recent change to the Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) validation process.

Workaround

Make sure to verify the total amount on the T5 Summary and in the XML file before electronically submitting the T5 slip. The amount must match to the penny the total of the amounts entered on the recipient slips.

To verify the tags in the XML file, navigate to the XML file location and open the XML file. You can find the XML file by copying the file path to your clipboard from the transmission dialog box, then pasting it in File Explorer without the file name.

Then, make sure the following tags in the XML file contain the correct amounts:

  • Box 12: <tot_tx_dvnd_amt></tot_tx_dvnd_amt>
  • Box 26: <tot_enhn_dvtc_amt></tot_enhn_dvtc_amt>

Anticipated Resolution

We will resolve this issue in the next TaxCycle update.
