CRA: Error Transmitting T5013 Slips Without RZ Program Type

When submitting T5013 slips and summaries, partnerships may encounter an error message that reads, “Filer number is missing or invalid for this type of return.” 

Missing RZ Program Type

This error occurs when the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) does not have an RZ program type registered for the partnership. It may affect T5013 slips and summaries. It does not affect T5013FIN transmissions.

Register for a RZ Program Account

To prevent filing delays, the partnership or authorized filer may proactively contact the CRA to create an RZ program account for the partnership.

• Online — If you already have a Business Number (BN) but do not have an RZ program account number, you can get one with Business Registration Online (BRO). The online process requires “two owners and corresponding SINs.” To register online or to find out more about online registration, go to canada.ca/business-registration-online.
• By mail — Complete Form RC1, Request for a Business Number and Certain Program Accounts and send it to your nearest tax centre as soon as possible to ensure that the CRA can process it before the filing deadline. You must select the “Partnerships Group” program account type and the T5013 Partnership Information Return. A nominee or agent who files the T5013 slips and summary must register for a T5 group RZ account number.
• By phone — You can register for CRA program accounts by calling 1-800-959-5525. If you already have a BN, but do not have an RZ program account, be ready to answer all the questions in Form RC1.
